IIA Conference 2021 already moved to September

In light of Covid-19 measures and possible opportunities, the IIA Netherlands Conference 2021 will not take place in June as usual, but on September 16-17. This is for the first time in years. With this early date change, we hope to increase the chances of being able to organize the conference completely live. So, save the date!

Read Internal Auditor February 2021 online

The digital edition of Internal Auditor is a fully replicated version of the magazine, allowing you to view entire issues and flip through each page — just like the print edition. The theme this time: On The Agenda. About how auditors should get up to speed on the potential business impact of upcoming policy reforms in the US.

Internal auditors are 'stuck in the middle'

      By Richard Chambers
One of the persistent challenges internal auditors face is finding alignment with stakeholders on the risks that most threaten their organizations. For many years, I have written about the importance of building relationships with those we work for and with to nurture communications that support alignment. Indeed, the most common advice I’ve offered to chief audit executives (CAEs) over the years is “know what is keeping our stakeholders up at night” and “follow the risks.” But it's hard for internal auditors to "follow the risks" when there is no consensus.

Internal auditors are nitpickers and fault-finders

      By Richard Chambers
Last week, the globally popular business comic strip "Dilbert" took on management's perception of/reaction to internal auditors. Like all Dilbert strips, there is enough truth in the punchline to grab our attention and be provocative. I must admit that I smiled. I certainly encountered management officials who didn't want me, or my internal audit team, poking around in their departments. After my initial amusement, I asked myself: Why does management so frequently assume that we are just there to "find problems?"

      IIA Bookstore Back in Business

The Internal Audit Foundation has enhanced their bookstore operations to better streamline the handling of orders. They have migrated to a new warehousing and fulfillment vendor, modernized and upgraded their e-commerce system and improved efficiency through integrations with upgraded shipping and account software. The IIA Bookstore is now back online!

      Useful book for audit committees

While the challenges for audit committees are increasing, the guidance for them has not kept pace. The book Powering Audit Committee Outcomes is structured into chapters tailored specifically to support audit committees. Written by seasoned practitioner Bruce R. Turner, it will give internal audit leaders the eyes and ears of the audit board.

      COSO ERM Certificate Training

The complexity of enterprise risk has changed. New risks and responsibilities have emerged. But the COSO ERM Certificate program keeps you risk-ready. This program, starting on May 3, offers you 5 morning workshops to pass your certificate. You learn how to apply the integration of ERM with strategy and performance.

Prepare for an external quality assessment

We know what the IIA Standards say, but how do we put these into practice, so that we can pass a Quality Assessment? In his training on May 5, James Paterson makes you understand good practices around an ongoing quality assessment and how to leverage what you are currently doing to get the credit you deserve.

Environmental, social and governance risks better be on your radar

Richard Chambers: "Organizations are under increasing pressure from shareholders, regulators, and other key stakeholders to report on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues. The movement to accurately measure and report the impacts that organizations have on the environment, climate, natural resources, workforce, and community (and their related ethical implications) is rapidly changing how the public interacts with and values businesses and government institutions."
